Re: Random Events

Wolfgang,

Some time ago, you wrote:

"In Raduga 3.8 you can schedule random files by specifying a directory name followed by ".dir" in the file name box, for example "c:\Music\MP3\Clips.dir"."

Well, now that I finally have 3.8.5 installed, I tried the above, but I'm not so sure I understood your directions.

First I tried to name a directory "Language Clips.dir". That didn't work because when you're creating a Scheduled Event, you have to point to a file name or it won't accept the entry.

Then I tried to put a file called "Language Clips.dir" in that directory. I was then able to schedule an event with that file, but Raduga skipped right over it when the event came up.

What am I doing wrong? My goal is to, at a scheduled time, go to the Language Clips directory and have the program pick a file from there at random and play it. I want to be able to schedule this as an Event and not part of the Master Playlist.

Thanks for your help,

Re: Random Events

To add a random track to the playlist, choose the menu Playlist|Add Random Track...

You can copy this track (Ctrl+C) and paste it (Ctrl+V) into the file name input field of a scheduled event. Note the the "Test" button does not work for this sort of tracks.

Re: Random Events

I'm sory, but I don't think I'm making myself clear. I want to take a random directory file and have it play as a SCHEDULED EVENT. There is no menu option for Playlist|Add Random Track because after you press "New", there are no menus..

I'll try explain what I want to happen:

I want to make a scheduled event that takes a file at random from a specified directory and plays it at the scheduled time. We do Mohawk language programming with short clips that give a sort of "Word of the Hour". I'd like to have this event play at, say, the top of the hour and play a different file each time without me having to specify which particular file gets played.

Am I clear?

Thanks,

Cal White

Re: Random Events

You need to use the .dir function as a Scheduled Item. Let's say your folder of Top Of Hour audio is called C:\TOPOFHOUR

(in fact, the correct info is in the post at the top of this thread)

In a new event window, set it to every hour, and in the textbox, put:

C:\TOPOFHOUR.dir

This tells Raduga to play an item from that folder. You do not need to rename your folder. Just specify a folder, and put .dir in the Events window.

Aah, that seems to be the missing piece of info. I'll try it tomorrow.

Re: Random Events

I use this funtion loads and it works a treat, its very handy for throwing in station id's/sweepers inbetween songs. Just pile them all into a folder and raduga does the work for you...how cool is that.
