Games Port

Can I use the game port for a break and a start instead of a stop and start

Re: Games Port

Yes, the following functions are mapped to buttons 1-4 on the joystick: Play, Stop, Next, Break.

Re: Games Port

I'm not a hardware specialist. But the gameport should be described in any computer book.

Note that you will have to configure a driver via Control Panel/Game Controllers. Here you can also test the buttons before trying them with Raduga.

Re: Games Port

Here is the wiring diagram for use with Raduga - This will work with any playout program that allows control via the Game Port. The 2 Resistors are required so that Windows can "see" a joystick. I have seen examples without these components, but either way, you'll need to do some soldering.

If anybody needs help with this item, please contact me and I may be able to make a lead for you.

Re: Games Port

Charlie,

I tried building your remote and I could only get Start and Stop to work. Nothing happening from Pins 10 and 14.

I am running Windows 2000 which only allows you to install one 2 button joystick so maybe that is the limiting factor to the 2 buttons.

Are you (or anyone else) running it with Windows 2000?

Re: Games Port

James - I am running Windows2000, and am using my circuit with the BCX playout system, this uses all 4 buttons to start it's 4 playback ports - It works fine.

You MUST have the 2 resistors wired correctly, these cause Windows to initialize the Game Port and detect a "2-axis, 4-button boystick" - You can then use the "Test" option and check the little red-lights under "Gaming Options" in Control Panel.

Here's an example, sorry "4" isn't lit - the PC is being used - and holding 4 buttons with your one hand whilst doing ALT-PrintScreen is a little tricky!

If the resistors are not wired correctly, you'll end-up with either 2 buttons or no detected joystick.

Re: Games Port

Charlie,

Thanks!! You've pointed me to what caused the problem.

I did have the resitors installed.

I had installed the "2, 2 Axis 2 Button Joysticks on one Gameport" instead of the "2 Axis 4 Button Joystick".

I changed it to "2 Axis 4 Button Joystick" and it worked perfectly.

Thanks again!!

James
