Program Performed an Illegal Operation, shutting down

I downloaded the demo, and have the following problems:

1) During a transition, there will be "clicks" are the songs are
faded in and out.
2) The program will crash after one or two songs at the
transition.
3) The CODEC sounds like crap.

This is a Win98 system with 256MB memory. Winamp with
the SqrSoft advanced cross fading works very well on this
system...why not Raduga???

Thanks!

Re: Program Performed an Illegal Operation, shutting down

It is possible that all these problems are caused the MP3 decoder that is installed on your system. Raduga will work only with the original Fraunhofer codec that is installed by Windows Media Player.

Please use the DSPlay test player to see which coded is used and compare the result with the included screenshot:

Re: Program Performed an Illegal Operation, shutting down

Looks like that may be the problem.
The DSPlay player says I am using the
InterVideo Audio Decoder. How do I get the
correct CODEC installed?

Thanks for the help! We are trying several
automation systems for use on our Part 15
network (Raduga, DMP2002, BSI, and Scott)

Re: Program Performed an Illegal Operation, shutting down

I don't know where this codec comes from and therefore I don't know how to remove it (except for a clean Windows install). On my machine I have Intervideo WinDVD and Intervideo MP3 creation pack installed, but Raduga still uses the good Fraunhofer MP3 decoder.

Re: Program Performed an Illegal Operation, shutting down

I uninstalled a DVD player, and reinstalled WMP 7.0, and Raduga Plays mostly fine, with the correct MP3 CODEC. This may be a limitation of the demo version, but some MP3s will not
play; they give an error that says something about filters.
I think these may be MP3s sampled at a lower rate (like 96 or
something like that). Any thoughts?

These MP3s play fine in WinAMP (I use that as the standard)

Re: Program Performed an Illegal Operation, shutting down

There is no limitation in the demo version. Please tell me the exact error message.
Do these files play ok with Windows Media Player?
Can you send me a (small) sample file, which does not want to play in Raduga?

Re: Program Performed an Illegal Operation, shutting down

The error is "No Combination of filters could be found to render the stream". It plays fine
in Windows Media Player version 7.01.00.3055.
I was wrong about the sample point earlier:
this particular cut is sampled at 128 KB/S.
It's several megabytes..don't have anything smaller.
One thing I just noticed: In View/Properties
in Windows Media Player, it says: "Audio Codec: Unknown". So, WMP and Winamp probably either default to MP3 codec based on file name,
or somehow detect it.

Re: Program Performed an Illegal Operation, shutting down

For normal MP3 files, WMP reports the "MPEG-Layer 3" audio codec is used. So appears that these files use some weired format. Do you know how they were encoded?

In order to avoid such problems in the future, I strongly recommend to use the same encoding options for all files. Depending on the quality of your broadcast, 128 or 192 kBit/s constant bitrate is a good choice. I recommend AudioCatalyst as the MP3 encoder.

Re: Program Performed an Illegal Operation, shutting down

I figured out why the "No Combination" of filters is displaying: Any MP3 file that
has an IDV3v2 tag will not play. To fix this,
all I did was go into Winamp, right click on
the cut, and select info. I then unclicked
to IV3 v2 box, and updated the file.

Also, if there any way to test DirectX with the
demo version? I'd sure like to see if my compressor would work with Raduga.

Thanks (we'd love to be beta testers)

Re: Program Performed an Illegal Operation, shutting down

You can test DirectX plug-ins with the demo version. However, the settings will be lost once you shut down Raduga.

If you even want to do some tests on air, you can purchase a time-restricted version of Raduga for 30 or 60 days.

Re: Program Performed an Illegal Operation, shutting down

If Mp3s using IDv2 are not working then that certainly IS abug in Raduga that needs fixing and accomodation as all our MP3s are IDv2 tagged now.

Re: Program shutting down & machine based licensing.

Dear Wolfgang,

I would like to make the following suggestion regarding the new Raduga machine based license policy:

Like many other users, we had some bad experiences with a machine based license policy. One of those experiences was that the software company, we bought our traffic software (invoices, etc.) from, whent out of business (bankrupt).

So we were not only forced to buy completely new software, but it also took us lots of trouble, time and money to transfer our data from their application to the new one.

I think it would be a far better and reasuring idea for a radiostation if, instead of this machine based policy, Raduga displays the name of the licensed radiostation in big letters on the screen.

I can't imagine many radiostations using a Raduga copy with the name of another (competing) radiostation in big letters on display in their own studios...

To finish, also this: After I used Norton System Works 2002 to repair some errors in my Windows 2000 operation system, it seems that the problem with Raduga suddenly closing (because of memory running out?) is solved. (Knock on wood.)

Best Regards,
Andre Depre,
Radio Tienen.

Re: Program Performed an Illegal Operation, shutting down

JK:

SqrSoft Xfader, which works ONLY with Winamp, is a phenominal program. You don't have to fool around trimming any MP3 file. Used in conjunction with Winamp, any untrimmed MP3 will do a beautiful Xfade with no gaps. Something like this is at the top of my wish list for Raduga.
