Raduga On A Notebook Computer

Has anyone tried running Raduga continuously on a Notebook computer? I'd like to try it because the energy requirements to run a Notebook over the cost of a year will be far lower than a standard desktop.

Can a Notebook operate week after week for several weeks at a time in this manner?

Re: Raduga On A Notebook Computer

William,

I has been my experience from hearing the results of other people that have operated a notebook computer for extended periods of continuous use, just make sure that the notebook is operated with plently of air flow in and around the computer. Due to the smaller size compared to a desk top, the notebooks do not have the ready made ability to push heat out of the case as easily compared to a desktop. Often what happens is the mother board/cpu dies due to heat issues. Not saying that it can't be done with a laptop/notebook computer, just beware of those issues. Myself here with four desktop machines, networked together and running non stop here at my location, I have not seen a hugh rise in electric usage as a result. The real energy hog with desktops is mainly from the older CRT type monitors. If you set the OS to automatically power down the monitors or just simply shut the monitors off if you need to leave the computer running, you'll see the energy consumption drop. The newer flat screen monitors are very easy on electric usage and won't be as much of a pain compared to their dinosaur counter parts.

Thanks for replying Bob.

Yes, my primary concern was the potential for the CPU to overheat during constant usage. I will buy one of the new Intel Duo Core or AMD Turion units because they apparently run cooler than older units. That in combination with your suggestions, I hope will solve the heat build up and dispersion problem.

Re: Raduga On A Notebook Computer

I guess you have bougth a laptop by now, but others might like to know this:
AMD has a Athlon64 "Energy Efficient Small Form Factor" CPU. combine this and a nVidia chipset with onboard graphics, and you can build a Desktop PC using down to 35W (without monitor)

Re: Raduga On A Notebook Computer

Our stations run on Lap tops. This is not only to save power, but in the event of a power outage the program will still run. We also atached a 2500 ups to the lap top only. This will run the sytem for over 48 hours. Also I will repeat, use (2) 1X 1/2 wood on both sides of the lap top to let air in. We also use a Lap Top fan unit, not pluged into the computer for power, to give the Lap Top more Air. Our stations have been runing for a littel over 7 years on just a Lap Top allown. We keep the lap top in the rack and add a flat screen so it can be seen behind the mixxer.
