XP problem

I have a new machine with Raduga 3.5 on XP and wav's play fine, but with mp3s, some work fine, but most will not play unless I fast forward (ctrl >) and then rewind. This is really weird because the data IS there, raduga just doesn't recognize it. Cool Edit and Media Player will play the files without any problem. Does anybody know what the problem might be?
