Random Events

I don't get a chance to follow these forums on a regular basis, so I often miss the end of a thread I had some interest in.

Some time ago, it was asked if it was possible to schedule an event randomly from a directory. The idea was that you could point Raduga to a directory of sound files and, at the specified time, it would play a file from that directory at random.

What was the outcome of that discussion? Is it possible to do this? Right now, we are doing Mohawk language clips and I have 24 different files scheduled over 24 hours. This works, but the same file plays at the same time each day. I'd like to schedule the clips at, say 15 minutes to the hour, and have a random clip play at this time.

Thanks for your help,

Re: Random Events

In Raduga 3.8 you can schedule random files by specifying a directory name followed by ".dir" in the file name box, for example "c:\Music\MP3\Clips.dir".

To add random tracks to the master playlist, choose "Playlist/Add Random Track" from the menu. You can copy the playlist item (Ctrl+C) and paste (Ctrl+V) it into the file name box for a scheduled event.

Re: Random Events

Followup: Last week, I tried to program a classic rock show using the above directions and it went wrong. While the process seemed to work when I input the files, the program simply skipped entries such as "c:\stationmusic\classicrock\aerosmith.dir

Fortunately, I had programmed some actual songs as well as the random events, but the show ended up as one hour instead of the planned (or rather hoped-for) two hours.

Any idea what could have happened?

Re: Random Events

Did the directory "c:\stationmusic\classicrock\aerosmith" actually exists when you ran the show and did it contain at least one music file?
Please check also the Raduga log file for any error messages.

Re: Random Events

I checked the log and it only showed that the mini-list had actually played.

Having said that, I just visited the web site for the latest version of Raduga where it says that only now are Random Events supported in mini-lists. Could this have been the problem?

I am downloading the newest version of Raduga as I type.

Thanks for your help,

Re: Random Events

Yes, random tracks or rotations within mini-playlist were not possible before version 3.8.5.
