CRASHING!

Hello

I like SuperEdi but it crashes way too often when performing FTP duties in particular. This is the case on both Windows 2000 and Windows XP (not surprisingly).

Is there anything that can be done to stop this?

One other thing is that the FTP dialogue should allow for multiple downloads and should be expandable in size.

Hi pd!

I've tested SuperEdi with different FTP servers on Linux, Solaris and Windows. Can you give me test account on the server where it didn't work for you?

Btw. if the FTP server does not require authentication, then you can also open files using the Explorer tree.

Re: CRASHING!

Hello Wolfgang

Hmmm, test account... I'll see what I can do. Perhaps it would be easier though for me to give some instances of what is happening when the program crashes.

Overall I think FTP is a dodgy protocol so there may be nothing you can do however SuperEdi also has no automated backup to a local drive that I am aware of. Hence when an FTP transfer fails and the dreaded zero length file on remote server, crashed program on client machine double whammy hits, it is very devastating.

To add to the problems I just had SuperEdi crash for the first time not directly related to an FTP issue. I simply tried to undo some change to a file that I had already performed a full tab replace on and it barfed on my W2K machine.

Re: CRASHING!

If you can describe a reproducable error, then I will certainly be able to fix it. If it's not related to a special FTP server, this will make it even easier.

Re: CRASHING!

Hello

I (thought I) posted an article about 10 hours ago stating that the server I am having trouble with is a Debian Linux server running ProFTPD.

The message seems to have disappeared.

Now I am having the same crashing yet again only this time it's via a dialup modem via a Windows XP Pro client.

Re: CRASHING!

I can help perhaps. I have Superedi at work and it works brilliantly ftp uploading (browsing though is too slow to work so I type in the URL's manually).

At home I have Windows XP SP2 fully updated. It crashes EVERY time I try to upload via FTP. It is only on XP and not on Windows 98 so I assume it is an XP problem. It logs in, so it is past the authentication then crashes during the upload. Usually gets maybe 70% uploaded then crashes. So it deletes the original, then begins the upload then has problems.

Hope this helps because this program is my main way of programming php, perl and html. :)

Rich.

Re: CRASHING!

And I didn't check the date on the original post. Sheesh.. sorry I just did a search for my problem. Any ideas?

Re: CRASHING!

Can you give me an FTP account on that server? If I can reproduce the problem, it is almost certain that I can fix it soon. Send it to wolo@wolosoft.com.
