Problems with Find

One feature I really don't like about SuperEdi is that when I'm searching, superedi always changes the search string to whatever the selected text is when I press F3. This is annoying because often I'll search for some text, select and copy some other text nearby, but then want to continue searching for the same text as before. I can get around this by making sure I deselect the text first, but that's really annoying, and I don't always remember to do so.

Can you make that feature optional, so I can set it to only search for the text I explicitly enter, and not just what I select?

Re: Problems with Find

Actually that is one of my personal favourite features, therefore I won't change it.

But it might be a good idea if SuperEdi could remember a list of 10 previous search strings. Then you could easily select your last search from a drop-down list when you start a new search with Ctrl+F.

Re: Problems with Find

That would also be very useful, but it's not an ideal solution to my problem. I'd prefer to just be able to disable the feature because having to press ctrl+f and select from the list is almost as slow as typing the search string again. Would it really be that hard to make it an optional feature rather than forcing users to use your preference?

Or, how about adding another shortcut key (maybe F4?) that would continue searching for the previous search string, and leave F3 as it currently is. It's, again, not ideal since I'm used to pressing F3, but it could be a reasonable compromise.

Anyway, whatever you decide, it's still the best text editor I've ever used, so I can't complain too much. :-)

I would like your idea:

"SuperEdi could remember a list of 10 previous search strings. Then you could easily select your last search from a drop-down list when you start a new search with Ctrl+F"

Re: Problems with Find

This feature has already been added in SuperEdi version 3.4.3. It's not implemented as a combo box, but as a auto-completion control. Simply enter the first few characters of a previous search string, then press the Cursor-Down key.
